WAV Format

Artisound offers our customers the high quality format of .wav for every single track we sell for licensing within our library. We of course still offer a light .MP3 alternative for every one of our tracks also for convenience.

Why is .wav format important?

Quality.

A 44,100 KHz 16 bit WAV has a full frequency response up to 22KHz where as a MP3 cuts off around the 18KHz mark. WAV format can cover the full frequency that the human ear is able to hear! An MP3 file is compressed and has quality loss whereas a WAV file is lossless and uncompressed. An MP3 will never sound better than a Wav, no matter what kbps it’s at as it is all still lossy.

Although .WAV formats are much bigger than MP3s, storage these days is not such a big problem so quality can generally be afforded.

If a MP3 is played out on a big and loud sound system, the stereo information is brought into the dual mono signal, and the digital noise is still there. If a WAV is played, the stereo information is brought into the mix as lossless quality. Also MP3 can not code 5.1 stereo surround sound.

There are countless reasons why WAV format boasts much better audio quality over MP3.
